Individuals and corporations are not in control of their digital identities. Sensitive personal data is stored in a centralized source and is shared without the consent of its owners. Furthermore, all digital personas undergo intense scrutiny, precisely due to the ease of faking a digital persona compared to a physical identity. Recent changes in compliance and regulations bring the need for change in how identity should be managed.
CREDPROOF aims to tackle the identity issue by using a decentralized approach to create a platform to issue verifiable credentials, which are privacy enhanced and self-sovereign by design.

We believe in a future where people own their own identity.
Credproof is a group of computer scientists, cryptographers, blockchain engineers, startup developers, and ex-enterprise executives from Canada, USA, and the Asia-Pacific region working together since 2016 on decentralized applications, and every obstacle lead the team towards the inevitable revelation: the first and most vital step to any future applications is self-sovereign identity.
In our journey of devouring academic papers, developing research with world-class universities, and delivering live-products in the financial, insurance, and education industries, we have become experts on identity and trust frameworks, fraud detection, regulatory registries, distributed ledger technology, privacy-preserving cryptography, and more.

Characteristics

The CREDPROOF platform focuses on the incorporation of the following characteristics by design.

Trusted and
Trustworthy

Founded on an existing real-world identity which has a high degree of source of trust, where its attributes have a high degree of provenance. The passports are issued by trusted third party operating within a legal jurisdiction (e.g. Bank, Government, Insurance Company.)

Interoperable and
Useful Everywhere

There will be standardized and reliable credentials in widespread use in both the public and private sectors. If a individuals presents a valid and appropriate credential, any qualified inspector is capable of accepting and verifying the credential as proof of identity and attributes.

Privacy Respected
(GDPR Compliant)

All data, attestations, validation and transactions are cryptographically secured and every transmission and transaction is user consent based. Legitimacy of information and transactions for all parties – quicker and more reliable for everyone. GDPR compliant by design (No PII).

Our Approach

The CREDPROOF platform by design can adapt to various use cases, such as insurance, health, finance and education.

1. Examine (By Issuer)

Perform required vetting, due diligence, and other tasks needed to establish confidence in making an attestation about an identity/credential trait.

2. Issue (By Issuer)

Generate and deliver a digital credential in accordance with some predefined schema.

3. Hold
(By Holder / Subject)

The individual or entity in control of the digital passport or agent that stores and controls the use of a given Credential; note, the Holder may or may not be the Subject (e.g. a child may be the Subject of a passport, but the child’s parent may be the Holder of that passport).

4. Use (By Holder)

Holder presents one or more credentials to a inspector.

5. Verify (By Inspector)

Validate authenticity of issuer and holder and then consume data.

Dr. Lawrence Ma
Dr. Lawrence Ma

Dr. Lawrence Ma has over 25 years of academics, finance and technology development, and business experiences. He studied mathematics at Yale University (B.A.), Stanford University (M.S.), and Cornell University (Ph.D.) and taught mathematics at the National University of Singapore for several years before moving into quantitative finance and risk management with thinktanks and consulting firms such as the American Bourses Corporation and Bain & Company. He currently serves on the Expert Committee of the Beston Blockchain Research Center at the Central University of Finance and Economics.

Gabriel Chan
Gabriel Chan

Gabriel Chan has over 10 years of tech startup experience, mostly in the North American education technology sector, stemming from his time at the University of Waterloo (B.A.Sc. Systems Design Engineering). While working full-time in the edtech space, he satisfied his curiosity in blockchain through the nascent Ethereum community in Toronto and San Francisco. After an abortive attempt building a public-chain decentralized application around mobile-based customer experience at the Swire Blueprint accelerator, he continued exploring blockchain application possibilities in the enterprise software infrastructures. He currently serves on the Organizing Committee of the 2020 International Blockchain Olympiad.
